Today I am going to talk about the role that technology has in ceramics, it is a somewhat difficult topic to talk about, since just with your hands, clay, a table and an rustic kiln how can be made with wood, with time and care of that the braise does not extinguish can reach a temperature of 1000ºc, but today they are not used much because it’s a very dangerous, because of the rustic shape they are manufactured. Today, are used principally electric kiln, since they are easy to install and use. Ideally, the kiln has to be formed by a set of resistors inside an insulating chamber that is made of either fiber coated with light refractory bricks, or combinations of both. since the temperatures are so high that the entire installation has to be very safe.

The kiln is finally the most important tool for make to ceramics, because, it would not be possible to "cook" the pieces without the kilns. Every piece has its particularity, depending on what type of ceramic's clay in used; because it is occupied certain temperature for each case, for example, a ceramic gress to be "vizcochada" (it is the term that is used for the first cooking of the piece) has to be at a temperature of 1050º C and for its cooking with the enamels is at 1350º C, it is a bit complicated, but over time it is understood, since the vizcochado is used equally in all the pieces and the second firing is with enamels that cover the ceramic piece and that is the one that varies from degrees ºc. Another example that I would like to give is from Raku Ceramics, it is my favorite way to make ceramics, in its second cooking a temperature of 1100ºc is used and the piece is taken out at its maximum temperature and it is given a cold blow with water and sawdust, the pieces are beautiful. and thanks to the use of the electric oven many types of ceramics can be achieved, it is worth learning about ceramics and its tools, both manual and technological, it is already a perfect mix between tradition and technology
